Over the past few months, we have been working with the New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering (NMITE) to explore opportunities for collaboration. This has included meetings with the NMITE team and participating in their innovative Live Design Brief programme.
As part of the programme, our Operations Director, Stuart Speight, visited NMITE’s Blackfriars Campus to meet with student teams who had been tasked with managing a project from concept through to completion. Stuart discussed each team’s approach, explored how responsibilities had been shared, and provided practical feedback on project planning, communication, teamwork and delivering successful outcomes within tight timescales.
Reflecting on the experience, Stuart commented:
“What impressed me most was NMITE’s emphasis on practical, hands-on learning. Every team approached the challenge differently, but all demonstrated enthusiasm, creativity and a genuine willingness to learn. The skills they were developing are the same principles we rely on every day at Glosford SIPS, planning, communication, teamwork and problem-solving.”
Following the presentations, Stuart returned to join the judging panel, where students showcased their completed projects in a competitive final that encouraged both creative and commercial thinking.
The partnership reflects Glosford SIPS’ commitment to supporting the next generation of engineers and construction professionals by helping students gain valuable insight from industry.
Looking ahead, we are excited to continue working with NMITE through factory tours, site visits and future engagement opportunities as part of their engineering curriculum.
